Forging a Path in Mining Consulting: Building a Business for Industry and Family Success

Cahill Mining Consulting, Rolla

Hannah Cahill, a dedicated entrepreneur and mother of seven, found her passion in the mining industry. Armed with a degree from Missouri S&T and six years of experience at The Doe Run Mining Company, Hannah sought a way to balance her professional goals with her desire to be present for her children. In 2019, she began offering services as a sub-consultant for other consulting companies.

In 2022, Hannah officially founded Cahill Mining Consulting (CMC), taking the first step towards building her own successful enterprise. Recognizing the need to expand and enhance her business, Hannah welcomed a partner onboard in 2023. Today, CMC serves clients globally with a growing reputation for delivering prompt, high-quality services.

What sets CMC apart from other industry competitors is its nimble nature. Many mining consulting firms are known for their size, high fees, and lengthy turnaround times. In contrast, Hannah’s smaller firm operates with agility and efficiency, swiftly addressing client needs without excessive overhead costs. This approach has earned her the loyalty of many repeat customers, including smaller mining companies that lack the resources to hire full-time engineers. Hannah fills the crucial gap in mine planning for these companies, sparing them the expense of recruitment and training.

As Hannah envisions the future of CMC, she aims to expand her services to include mineral appraisal sectors and market analysis. With a focus on continuous growth, she plans to hire an analyst to further enhance the firm’s capabilities. Recognizing the potential of government contracting, Hannah has partnered with SBDC and APEX to navigate this new terrain, leveraging their expertise to secure future opportunities.

Hannah’s journey with Missouri SBDC at Missouri S&T began when she was referred to them by her business attorney. Having SBDC as a resource has proven invaluable to Hannah, providing her with a lifeline to expert guidance and support. Whenever she finds herself facing unfamiliar challenges or questions, she can reach out to SBDC, tapping into their wealth of knowledge. This connection has empowered her to navigate the complexities of business ownership with confidence.

Hannah’s advice to fellow small business owners is grounded in her own experiences. She emphasizes the importance of building a solid understanding of the foundational aspects of one’s business. By asking questions, learning about taxes, legal requirements, and business management, entrepreneurs can lay the groundwork for success. Hannah encourages aspiring business owners to research their interests thoroughly, allowing them to develop self-reliance and the confidence to tackle new challenges head-on.

Hannah Cahill’s story exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit, determination, and resilience that drive small business success. With the support of SBDC and her unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional services, Hannah continues to carve a unique path in the mining consulting industry, creating opportunities for both her clients and herself.
